Armory Depot And Breeding Pen

Posted by GreatestMafiaWars | 8:20 AM

There are two new exciting developments for properties on the horizon. First is one that most of you have predicted: the Armory and the Breeding Pen (these names aren’t final). As you would expect, these are properties that will be able to manufacture or create new Armor and Animals respectively. Beyond that – there will be more specialty properties in the future of Mafia Wars, but we’ll roll them out slowly such that you won’t be overwhelmed with too many features at once.

The second is something I’ve alluded to in a previous post – the Vegas Casino property. Instead of having multiple buildings and businesses that you see currently, the Vegas property system will actually have you customizing (both visually and numerically) a single complex, so you can be your own Casino mogul. You’ll be able to choose your slot machines, upgrade your Hotel, as make sure your Vault is secure from robbery. In the coming weeks, I’ll reveal even more about this exciting new addition to Mafia Wars.

Another common complaint is that it would take an immense amount of time to get 501 copies of the best vehicle (or weapon) since you can only create one a day. We are currently considering new ways to get around this issue, so that players who do attain the highest levels of these properties will be able to create more of their favorite items (while still making sure exploitative players don't cheat the system).

WOW!! So we will be able to make armors and farm animals soon... our own miniature version of farmville.. and they are also considering to allow producing more than just 1 item per day from chop shop, weapon depot and later Armory Depot and Breeding Pen too..

Just as I told ya few days back as secret new features about Armory Depot.. plus I hope everyone knows and can already predict that Las Vegas jobs will require both energy and stamina..

Ok, that's it for today.. You can take the infos as just rumors or else.. but it's true that we don't have any Armory Depot yet or how to produce the Animals.. etc..
Just have fun with the game... and wait patiencely for these coming soon features!

Who Behind Facebook Account

Posted by GreatestMafiaWars | 5:42 AM

‘The average U.S. Internet user spends more time on Facebook than on Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Microsoft, Wikipedia, and Amazon combined. Think about that for a moment.’ -Mashable

Average Social Gamer: 43-Year-Old Woman
And more stats about social gaming:

‘Next time someone complains about how much time kids these days waste playing online games, bust out the results of this study: the average player is a 43-year-old woman. And they play a lot. The exploding popularity on Facebook and other sites of titles such as Farmville, Mafia Wars, and Happy Aquarium has redefined the genre of so-called social games.

GigaOm rounds up some other findings of the study by game-maker PopCap, which covered both the US and the UK:

38% of female social gamers play several times a day, vs. 29% of men.
Two-thirds play every day, nearly all play multiple times a week, and more than 60% say their sessions last more than half an hour.
Only 6% are age 21 or younger.’ -GigaOm

Facebook has updated their new statistics page and the most significant statistic is that sharing has increased 500 percent in only six months. The total number of users on the site has less than doubled in the same amount of time, growing from 250 million users to 400 million. That means the average user is sharing over 12 pieces of content each week.

As Kim-Mai Cutler points out, Facebook users don’t appear to be increasing their volume of status updates though:

Facebook users are also posting 60 million status updates a day or 50 percent more than they were in September. However, the overall percentage of Facebook’s user base posting status updates has actually fallen with 35 of the 400 million users publishing these per day. That’s unchanged from December, and only 5 million higher than the 30 million users posting status updates a day in July.

The picture is clear: Facebook users continue to be highly active (with 50 percent of users logging into the site daily) and are increasingly using the site as a tool for sharing stories with their friends. If you’ve been increasingly overwhelmed by the volume of content within your Facebook feed, it’s because users are now sharing more information on the site.

So how did Facebook increase their volume of sharing so dramatically? The most obvious explanation is an increased number of sites that have implemented Facebook Connect (over 80,000). Additionally, Facebook’s new share analytics tools have made it easier for website owners to enable users to share their content on Facebook.

Overall, Facebook continues to post remarkable growth while maintaining remarkable levels of user engagement.

Facebook New Layout

Posted by GreatestMafiaWars | 7:08 AM

New York: Facebook Doppelganger & Facebook new layout: Facebook begins rolling Facebook new homepage. Facebook is going for a makeover. Reports have surfaced that the internally-acclaimed social networking site is redesigning its home page. Also the site confirmed the report.

Kathleen Loughlin, a spokeswoman for Facebook said computer experts are working overnight to introduce change so that users can easily access it different feature.

However, till now the site has not released all the details about changes it’s going to introduce. It is expected that Facebook will unveil redesign details of late.

This is not the first time that the site is making effort to bring in some changes. The site had tried its hand last October. But it backtracked after hundreds of its users expressed their unhappiness over the changes. Besides, many were upset with the new changes and claimed they were having difficulties in using the site. That time too the officials at the popular site had made changes claiming that thing would become smoother. It would be interesting to see how the users react this time.

However, Facebook must have learned lessons from its earlier goof-up. Computer mavens are of the opinion that this time the site would be extra-careful in its makeover. And everybody loves a more user friendly website.

The message was mysterious. "I'd like to meet you. I am the ruler of one of the three biggest countries in the world." I don't get an invitation like that every day. Once or twice a month, yes, but not every day.

But who could it be? All large countries are run by guys, aren't they? The biggest nations by population are China, India and the US. The biggest ones by land mass are Russia, Canada and China. The biggest places by ego of ruling party members are Singapore, North Korea and Malaysia. They're all run by guys, which is probably why the world is in such a mess.

Any sensible, intelligent person would have ignored such a wacky invitation. So 14 minutes later I was there. At the coffee shop I met a pleasant thirty-something Australian woman called Janice. She explained that "the land of Facebook" had just overtaken the US as the third biggest country in the world, with 350 million people, compared to America's 308 million.

"And at present rates of growth, we will hit one billion by 2015 and overtake China and India by 2017," she said. "Then we will rule the world."

I pointed out the flaw in her argument: "Facebook is not a country." She smiled slowly. "That's a technicality. The information you need to provide to join Facebook is similar to that you provide to get a passport, and your Facebook name is equivalent to your passport number. Facebook users have rights and duties, and are actually more cohesive than citizens of other countries."

The points she made were reasonable, albeit insane, but there was another issue: What made her the ruler? She explained: "Facebook is a democratic kingdom. The company tries to make decisions, but in the end, the typical user decides what happens. The gingerism debate is a good example."

I had no idea what gingerism was, but I could guess what was coming. I said: "And you are a 35-year-old white female, thus you are the typical user, thus you rule Facebook." She nodded and took a sip of her triple-shot soy latte.

I asked: "But have you and your mates had any experience at governing a country?" She shook her head. "No. But we've all played Farmville." I said: "That'll do. It pretty much covers all the bases."

It was one of the strangest conversations I had had for a long time, and I'm talking two, maybe three hours. I told her: "You know, it's not really the number of people that count. It's the size of the economy." But she replied: "If it's the economy, then the Facebook community has already got more money than China and India."

Janice and her mates are working on a flag and a national anthem and are writing immigration policies (some of them want MySpace users barred).

But I eventually came up with an argument that caused her to pause. "If Facebook is a country, users have to get off their backsides and compete in the Olympics; they have to finance international bodies like the UN; and they have to send their share of peacekeepers to Afghanistan."

She put down her latte. Maybe being experienced at Farmville isn't enough after all.

350 Million Facebook Users

Posted by GreatestMafiaWars | 5:55 AM

Facebook’s CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg annouces that the social network he started in 2004 has now reached 350 million users.

Zuckerberg also said that Facebook will be removing their regional networks. Facebook’s current privacy model revolves around networks which works well for smaller groups of people. However, some of the regional networks, like India and China have now millions of members and this is no longer the best way to control the privacy issues of users. About 50 percent of all Facebook users belong to some regional network. Facebook will be adding features that many users have already asked for; for instance the ability to control who sees the content you create or upload. In addition, the privacy settings page will be made simpler by combining some settings. This is actually a very good upgrade as their privacy settings are quite a mess. So the next Facebook update will remove the current regional networks and create some new privacy features. In the next couple of weeks Facebook will ask users to review and update their privacy settings. Facebook will suggest settings for users based on their current level of privacy, but the best way to do this is to customise them yourself.

* * *
Facebook was launched five years ago on February 4th in 2004. Its founder, Mark Zuckerberg launched the Facebook as an experimental social network exclusively for Harvard University students. It was a huge hit right from the beginning. The current board members are Mark Zuckerberg, Marc Andreessen, Jim Breyer, Don Graham and Peter Thiel, David Sze (observer) and Paul Mader (observer). Facebook’s headquarters are in Palo Alto, California and they have offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, New York, Venice Beach, Dublin, London, Paris, Sydney and Toronto.

Facebook Buy Twitter

Posted by GreatestMafiaWars | 4:55 AM

Twitter rejected a $500 million acquisition offer from Facebook.

Facebook started the talks about buying Twitter in mid October this year. Twitter was offered $100 M cash and $400M worth of Facebook stock. The talks ended as Twitter rejected the offer as their investors decided that $500 million for over 63 million registered users was not enough. They were also concerned wether the Twitter <> Facebook integration could be done properly. Twitter executives also believe that Twitter is able to earn its own revenue as it’s user base is rapidly growing. It remains to be seen how they will actually start earning revenue, as currently they are not making any money. Pretty bold to say no to $500 million!

Now that Facebook has expressed it’s interest in Twitter it is almost certain that Twitter will get more offers in the future – after all, Twitter is a huge hit in terms of the number of users and the online popularity it already enjoys.

Twitter was launched in mid 2006 as a social networking and micro-blogging site that allows users to post updates. A Twitter post is limited by 140 characters and can be posted through their own web form, a text message or an instant message. The company adds constantly new features to their product, such as browser plug-ins, iPod and Facebook integration and Gmail import and search. In April 2008 Twitter launched their Japanese version, which includes advertisements as well.

This is how you do re-tweet (or Facebook via) on Facebook:

When you see a friend’s posted item in your news feed that you would like to re-post click the ‘share‘ button below it. A new window opens up and and you will see a mention ‘via johnsmith (Remove)‘ below the comment box. Write your comment in the box and click the Share-button. If you don’t want to use the via-feature then click the Remove-button before you post it on your profile. Once you have shared your friend’s post it will appear on your profile with a via link that points to your friend’s profile. Your friends will also see the item in their News Feed and they can in turn do a re-post creating a viral loop of the message. Pretty cool, eh? Go ahead now and give it a go… and let me know how you find this feature.

You know those emails you get every time someone comments on a status update you already commented on? It can definitely get annoying. Facebook applications previously had similar functionality, however as of yesterday afternoon, comment notifications have been shut off. For most users it’s probably not a huge deal, however some developers are already complaining about this subtle change.

In a discussion on the Facebook developer board regarding app-to-user notifications, Matt Trainer of Facebook told developers two weeks ago that “Notifications generated by fb:comments will continue to work.” Two weeks later, they’ve been shut off and one developer who just reached out to us suggests that this is a “double standard”. As the developer told us:

Facebook claims that this is to eliminate a user from receiving notifications as a result of actions by non-friends. However, if I reply on a friend’s wall and someone posts after me who is not a friend, I still receive a notification. In both situations, I’ve contributed to a wall. In both situations, a non-friend responds. But only on the Facebook wall do I get a notification about the response.

While an automated feature that developers had no control over previously, this functionality allowed for reengagement from users who wanted to have conversations with other users (friends or not). The end result here is that some developers are not happy. While I’m not sure that Facebook will restore comment notifications within applications, it’s clearly a feature that many developers would like to retain.

In the past hour I’ve noticed multiple users who have posted a message stating “My Ex-Girlfriend Cheated on me… Here is my revenge!” The image was not of their ex though. As a curious individual, I decided to click on the link to see if it was a virus or something else. The result was that I ended up posting the article to my profile and now it’s spreading around Facebook.

The key here is to not click the link if you see it on your friends’ profile or on your homepage. By using some creative CSS and an iFrame, this developer has triggered the “share” event every time a person clicks on the image displayed on the page. It’s a really creative trick, and one that I’m sure Facebook will block in a short amount of time but you should definitely be aware of the issue.

If you see an image like the one pictured below show up on your newsfeed or your profile: don’t click it!!

There have been numerous rumors over the past few years about Facebook charging for their site. None of them have been true so far and none of them will be true. Yes, Facebook could theoretically charge for specific features, but the $4.99 a month fee that some groups are claiming are flat out inaccurate. The largest group which grew to over 100,000 users was quickly removed by Facebook, however new versions of the group are beginning to sprout up.

Yesterday I received multiple inquiries from people, including journalists, about whether the rumors of Facebook charging a fee were true. No, the rumors are not. Did I call Facebook to find out whether or not the rumors were true? No. I just know that Facebook would be shooting themselves in the foot by charging for access. Want to keep investigating the story further? You’ll be wasting your time.

Facebook didn’t become the most popular site in the U.S. on Christmas by charging for their service, and they aren’t going to become the largest site in the world by charging for their service. Facebook will begin charging for access on the same day Google decides to charge users on a per search basis. Every year there are multiple groups claiming that Facebook will soon begin charging for their service in an attempt to get thousands if not millions of users to join quickly.

While Facebook has plenty of other monetization plans, including the rapid expansion of the Facebook Credits system, none of those plans include a fee-based access model.

Over the past 36 hours, a Facebook bug has been causing users to see an application installed on their account called “Unnamed Application” . Facebook says that the bug has been fixed, however hundreds of people are continuing to post status updates about the issue. While users are claiming that it’s spyware, it’s a bug in Facebook which should not damage your account or computer in any way.

While the number of users affected by the bug is unknown, at the peak of the issue being reported, there were hundreds of people posting status updates about the issue every second. Yesterday evening we watched Facebook search as numerous users posted status updates like:

Has your facebook been running slow lately? Check your ‘application settings’, go into ‘added to profile’. If you see one in there called”un named app” delete it… Its an internal spybot. Pass it on…………

While a much greater percentage of status updates this evening are related to the Apple iPad announcement, there are still hundreds if not thousands of users posting about the error. Facebook however is saying that the issue has since been fixed. Unfortunately Facebook is not providing any other details but based on what users have been telling us, removing the application resulted in your boxes tab being removed from Facebook.

It was most definitely a strange bug, but it isn’t something that you should be overly concerned about.

New Mafia Wars Home Page Layout

Posted by GreatestMafiaWars | 2:00 AM

From : The Mafia Wars Team

We’d like to announce that over the next few days, we’ll be making changes to the layout of the Mafia Wars home page. You’ll still be able to do everything you did before - send your gifts, play the lotto, and get energy packs like you normally do. We just want to make your game play as enjoyable as possible and make those actions easier and better.

One change you’ll notice is a message box on the right side of the home page that’ll contain all of your recent messages. It’ll show how many messages you have, and let you quickly navigate from one message to the next. We’ll also be introducing a cool new feature – the Recommendation Box, which will suggest up to 3 different jobs in New York and Cuba for you to complete.

We’ll be switching our players to the new system in groups throughout next week, so please bear with us and be patient. We're planning on adding even more features and improvements to the new homepage in the near future, so it’ll get even better over time. We hope you enjoy the upgrade!
